Google’s mission statement reads: Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. And they have released another product that does just that. Google Databoard.
By organizing the results of some of Google’s studies into infographic components, they have made it easy for people to find, consume, and share research relevant to their business. It’s great to have data this accessible, and it’s a pretty cool tool for building and sharing infographics.
They have built the tool with best visualization practice in mind, and a definite eye to design. The charts are beautiful, and they appear with a flourish of animation that helps to draw your attention to the data.
The release of tools like this follows a general trend in data analysis and visualization toward infographic style presentation. The simplified graphics, polished designs, and accompanying narratives in infographics make the data easy to consume and turn into insight.
It’s great to see Google getting on board with this trend because it means that one of the biggest thought leaders in the space of data and information, recognizes the power of infographic style data presentation. We’re excited to see where they take the tool in the coming months, and we’d love to see more of their studies added.
