NYC Relief and Volunteering Opportunities

Our last post covered some visualizations that were created to help assist with Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.

We decided to do a bit of visualization to help as well. The map below shows drop off points and shelters that are accepting supplies, along with the route of the New York City Marathon.

The initial decision announced by New York Road Runners (the event organizer) and New York City Mayor Bloomberg’s office to hold the marathon sparked huge controversy and animosity against all parties involved, including the runners who still planned on participating.

Today, NYRR announced the cancellation of the marathon and encouraged all participants to contribute time and resources to relief efforts throughout the city.
